3D Image Fusion & Augmented Reality in Practice
Every proceduralist has the same problem – they must work using 2D screens while creating 3D roadmaps for procedures. Discover how augmented reality is being used in urology to bridge the gap between 2D imaging and 3D anatomy. Cleveland Clinic urologist Dr. Zeyad Schwen shares how 3D image fusion supports more precise targeting, improved visualization, and greater workflow efficiency, helping clinicians better navigate complex anatomy and focus on delivering high-quality patient care for fully transperineal procedures and beyond.

CLINICAL APPLICATION
World’s First Augmented Reality Assisted MRI/US Fusion for Non-Rectal Fully Trans-Perineal Prostate Biopsy
Learn more about the feasibility of using MediView XR90 to fuse a pelvic multi-parametric magnetic resonance image segmentation with ultrasound to perform a non-rectal, fully trans-perineal (FTP), AR-assisted prostate biopsy. AR-assisted biopsy results were congruent with standard fusion biopsy results, showing benign prostate tissue.

Top 10 Abstract: Holographic Augmented Reality for Rectum-Free Transperineal Prostate Biopsy: A New Paradigm in Image-Guided Biopsy
Transperineal prostate biopsy reduces infectious morbidity and improves access to anterior lesions, but conventional targeting remains dependent on ultrasound-based spatial interpretation and often requires transrectal probe placement. We report our initial clinical experience with an augmented reality-assisted, rectum-free transperineal biopsy technique using the MediView XR90 system, which integrates preoperative imaging, electromagnetic tracking, and intraoperative 3D visualization.
