Mediview Announces New Advisory Board Member (Mark)

MediView is pleased to announce the addition of Mark Griswold, PhD as a new member to MediView’s Advisory Board.

Mark Griswold, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Radiology at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, with secondary appointments in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. With an imaging research lab located within the clinical space at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Dr. Griswold advances Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) science with immediate field-level input from radiologists and clinicians to validate and refine research concepts and initial results.

Dr. Griswold is also the Faculty Director of the Interactive Commons (IC), an institute that focuses on developing inventive solutions from a collaborative model that has shown the value of combining expertise from divergent fields. The IC provides a structure, personnel and technology to bring people together, change perspectives and solve big problems. The IC features the Microsoft HoloLens mixed-reality headset which is being used to teach courses and drive research throughout Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Griswold is known for his research in developing fast MRI methods as well as a highly quantitative and objective measurement of tissue states called Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting (MRF), which was featured in the journal “Nature” in March 2013. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (2020), National Academy of Inventors (2017), the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (2012) and the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (2009).

Dr. Griswold’s achievements have been recognized through the ISMRM Gold Medal (2017), the MRI Prize from the 11th International MRI Symposium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (2005), the Wilhelm C. Röntgen Prize from the University of Wurzburg (2003) and the Bright Stars Award for Investigative Radiology (2001). In 2014, Dr. Griswold was named a NORTECH “Inventor of the Year,” and he received the Case Western Reserve Medal for Excellence in Health Science Innovation, the highest honor bestowed by the School of Medicine.

Dr. Griswold received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and his PhD in Physics from the University of Wurzburg, Germany. Prior to joining Case Western Reserve, Dr. Griswold was director of the RF Coil Development Laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School.
